Skyrink Studios Pty Ltd is a brainchild of two 100% black owned companies. The two are South African companies with extensive experience in communications, TV productions, digital media platforms and event productions. Both companies have a history of producing TV and short films; from comedy to documentaries.
A brainchild of three great minds, Skyrink Studios offers clients a multi-purpose media facility. Our studios offer state of the art equipment and facilities which the industry is in need of as more and more production houses are moving toward mobile TV. There is also a demand for new content and new broadcasters are coming into play. The infrastructure accommodates such demands as the South African Film industry has not been able to bridge this gap.
It’s a NEW DAWN and there’s a feeling of hope and excitement. Carlton SkyRink comes ALIVE once again but this time without the ice, the ice has melted.
The disused rink undergoes an extreme cultural makeover, turning it into a 2400m2 studio facility.
Visionaries Frank Mohapi, Marvin Mathibe and Miles Britton Masekela looked to respond to the lack of studio and production facility availability in Gauteng. The studio’s founders had initially approached Transnet, which owns the Carlton Centre complex, to set up facilities in the 2 000-seat ballroom at the Carlton Hotel. Transnet subsequently offered them the disused Sky Rink, a 4 000-seat ice rink arena.
